The CORTEX Framework is a scalable, extensible, and secure software platform that allows you to build mission-critical, enterprise-level, high-volume, online transaction processing systems. It is the foundation of Micronite's software infrastructure called Customizable Online Rapid Transaction Engine eXtensible (CORTEX).

The CORTEX Framework is designed from the ground up for developing transaction-oriented applications that produce an accountable electronic document containing one or more unique barcodes for tracking the transaction. Some examples are digital invoices and receipts, gift and loyalty cards, movie and travel tickets, coupons, and shipping labels.

The CORTEX Framework is composed of two classes of software components: Business Components, which implement the business rules and behavior of the application, and Data Access Components, which allow uniform access to the database. Working together, they provide a rich set of functionality for rapidly implementing every phase of the transaction life-cycle.

Here are the main features of the core components of the CORTEX Framework:

  • Accounting
    Provides services for recording transactions using generally accepted accounting principles. General Ledger and subledgers support an unlimited number of financial accounting models.
  • Barcode
    Provides services for generating industry standard and custom-designed barcodes with unique tracking numbers in many output formats.
  • Customer
    Provides services for managing customers, customer accounts, and users.
  • Data
    Provides services for creating, reading, updating and deleting database records using dynamically generated SQL. Supports ACID transactions.
  • Form
    Provides services for generating custom-designed single-part or multi-part electronic documents in many output formats.
  • Journal
    Provides services for recording transactions. Supports a variety of transaction processing models that can be tailored to meet the needs of any industry.
  • Rate
    Provides services for calculating rates for financial transactions using Micronite's Structured Universal Rate Engine (SURE), a collection of computation algorithms that work upon rate charts that have been standardized and normalized.
  • Security
    Provides cryptographic services for securing and protecting sensitive data.
  • Vendor
    Provides services for managing vendors and vendor accounts.
  • Concurrent
    Transactional programming model supports thousands of simultaneous users.
  • Scalable
    Database and transaction processing architectures allow seamless growth from one user to thousands of users.
  • Extensible
    Component-based design allows development of transaction processing applications for any industry.
  • Fast
    In-Memory caching of data objects significantly reduces transaction response time.
  • Database Independent
    Data Access Layer can be adapted to support any SQL-compliant database.

Using the CORTEX Framework, Micronite designed and built CortexShip, a transactional system for the global shipping and logistics industry. The United States Postal Service certified CortexShip for use with their Electronic Verification System (eVS), which allows shippers to electronically document shipments and pay for postage and fees.
